We took a trip in February, wanting to experience the frozen landscape, and harsh winds and snow, with the geothermal hot pools that are scattered about the country. There are natural hot pools, such as thermal rivers in the hills and more luxurious hot pool facilities by the sea. Even Reykjavik has a geothermal beach, with a long rectangular hot pool looking out over the sea and where the locals warm up before taking the plunge and relaxing into a proper cold swim.

Places we visited:

Reykjadalur steam valley

Hvammsvik Hot Springs

Guolaug Baths

Secret Lagoon

Borgarnes Outdoor Swimming Pool

Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach
