Diane did her first open water event, the Cole Classic, in the 1990s off Bondi Beach and then completed it the following year off Manly Beach, transitioning from breaststroke to frontcrawl. Diane's professional background is in journalism and communications. She originally trained on the Morecambe Visitor newspaper as well as the Blackpool Evening Gazette. She has worked extensively in communications in Australia and the UK.
Jim was raised in the Lune Valley and is a fell walker, rock climber and mountaineer who enjoys a relaxed swim in the outdoors. He has been passionate about the Lake District since he was a teenager. He has completed all of the 214 Wainwright fells, listed by the author in his famous Lakeland walking guidebooks. Jim has also rock climbed extensively in Australia, Europe and the UK, but the Lakes remains his favourite location. Jim is also a cycle technician.
